Women in pharma and biotech are told to be more visible, speak up, build relationships, and show leadership potential. Nobody tells you how to do any of that inside a matrixed, scientific, regulated environment where the people deciding your next role are not the people you report to.
So you keep climbing the ladder. You get more credentialed, more skilled, more valuable on paper. You scroll LinkedIn. You talk to your boss and it gets kicked down the road. You wonder why the things that used to work are not working anymore.
Ladders are for the company. They are generic. They are not the only way for you to grow your career.
This book is about the other path. The hidden door. The growth that is unique to you and that most women in pharma spend their entire careers never seeing.
If you want a method that reflects how decisions are actually made about people in this industry, this book is it.
I built my entire career on developing others, particularly women in this industry.
I spent over 12 years inside CRO, Biotech, and Pharma — including AstraZeneca, Emergent BioSolutions, and Covance. I led Talent and Organizational Development, designed the career and leadership programs for women like you, and sat in the rooms where senior leaders had honest conversations about what they were actually looking for. It wasn't always something that would show up in your performance review.
The psychology of pharma and leadership was fascinating to me. So I got a Master's in Organizational Psychology — the psychology of work, why leaders do what they do, why we do what we do, and how to optimize our careers and performance.
I started my business in 2019 and have been coaching women like you full time since 2020. I created a method that has gotten women results even when they did everything right and the market, management, layoffs, and org charts were all a factor. So I wrote a book about it.
I know what is said when the room closes. Because I was in the room. And I know what it feels like to be the woman they are talking about. Because I was her.
External circumstances are just context.
They inform your strategy. They don't define the outcome.
Great insight! This is a useful book, not just from the perspective of an individual contributor looking to advance or make a change with their career, but also from the perspective of a people leader. The tools described can be used to help leaders ensure that they are partnering with their personnel in a way that is giving their people the best opportunities to advance their careers in the directions they want them to go. Leaders play an important role in creating a psychologically safe environment and are invaluable in partnering with their people to help them work on the topics presented in this book. I highly recommend it to anyone that is currently in a position where they lead others as well as to anyone looking to advance or change their career!

I enjoyed reading 'Your worthy career' and feel like the author did a good job getting her points across but felt it was repetitive at times. Overall, a worthy read.
